Challenge
BWXT engaged Creative Fire to develop an Indigenous Relations Roadmap to advance their Reconciliation journey. The ask was to create a strategic, comprehensive plan that could foster a culture of ownership and accountability across all levels of the organization.
Our Approach
Our team conducted an extensive review of over 180 internal documents to assess BWXT’s current state of Indigenous Relations and identify existing strengths and areas for growth. We engaged over 20 stakeholders from multiple business units to gather insights on employees’ understanding of Truth and Reconciliation and gauge their readiness to support the company’s efforts.
To support the development of the Roadmap, we created a Community Mapping and Stakeholder Report, outlining Indigenous Communities and Nations co-located with BWXT’s sites. The report also provided guidelines on how to engage respectfully and meaningfully with Indigenous groups, along with detailed community profiles.
Using insights from both internal stakeholders and Rights Holders, we developed a comprehensive Indigenous Relations Roadmap that outlined seven strategic themes and over 30 actionable steps. Each action included tactical details, metrics of progress, timelines, and assigned accountability to ensure successful implementation.
Impact
BWXT now has a clearly defined Indigenous Relations Roadmap that equips the organization with actionable strategies and tools to advance its Reconciliation journey. The Roadmap has been designed to build a strong foundation of understanding and accountability, enabling BWXT to take meaningful steps toward strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities and nurturing a more inclusive corporate culture.
